The original concept of Behind the Mic is drafted and created, with the hope of starting it up as a resource for learning more about the sports media industry. Nothing would come out of this until later that year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Behind the Mic is created for 90.5 KSHU-FM, the student radio station of Sam Houston State University, with hosts Jordan Smith and Carlos Zimmermann as a sports talk radio show.

Behind the Mic wins an Honorable Mention award for Sportscast/Show on radio at the 2021 Texas Intercollegiate Press Awards.

Behind the Mic continues on 90.5 KSHU-FM with new co-hosts Luke Scott and Collin Neill, who host the show for two years and turn it into the No. 1 show on the 90.5 KSHU-FM programming schedule.

With the graduation of Luke and Collin, Behind the Mic is retired from the FM airwaves with a grand exit. It is then turned back into the original intent of the show, in true podcast form. The first episode of the podcast would be released at 12:11 am central time.
